SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 23, 2016) – ElliptiGO Inc. announced today its title sponsorship of a presentation on the benefits of cross-training by 2016 United States Olympian Meb Keflezighi at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) 63rd Annual Meeting. Keflezighi’s session, “Cross-Training to Extend Competitive Performance,” will be Wednesday, June 1, 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
The session will be moderated by past ACSM President Steve Van Camp, who will lead a question-and-answer discussion with Keflezighi about his continuing elite performance in distance running, and the roles of cross-training in maintaining elite level status. The session will also feature overview of content from two recent scientific studies:
- “A Comparison of Physiological Variables between the Elliptical Bicycle and Run Training in Experienced Runners,” (Klein, Rana, & White, 2016; Ohio University) published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
- “Impact of Different Cross-training Modes On Economy And Functional Movement In High School Runners,” (Paquette, et al., 2016; Memphis University) which will be presented at the 2016 ACSM Annual Meeting.
At 40 years old, Keflezighi is the oldest American distance runner ever to qualify for the Olympics. He often says, “age is just a number” and describes how cross-training, especially on his ElliptiGO elliptical bike, helps him optimize recovery, increase his volume and keep up with the high mileage he needs for marathon distance success.
“All of us are aging every day, and cross-training is a beneficial practice for everyone who is looking to get fit, improve their current fitness, prevent injuries or rehab safely,” said Bryce Whiting, vice president of sales at ElliptiGO. “We’re excited to partner with ACSM to bring these research results to such an important audience of sports medicine professionals and practitioners. Meb, through his integration of elliptical cycling, has fully embraced cross-training, and his outstanding results speak for themselves. We are eager to work with other research scientists to continue discovering additional benefits and applications of elliptical cycling.”
Later in the day after the presentation, ElliptiGO representatives will be available inside the expo hall to answer questions and give elliptical bike demonstration rides on the ElliptiGO test track.
The 63rd ACSM Annual Meeting, 7th World Congress on Exercise is Medicine™, and World Congress on the Basic Science of Energy Balance runs May 31–June 4. More than 6,500 scientists, educators, physicians and students are expected to gather at the event to exchange cutting-edge research and education in applied sports medicine and the exercise sciences.
