Record Lowered for Fastest Journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats on Elliptical Cycle
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 9, 2016)— ElliptiGO Inc., creators of the world’s first elliptical cycles, today announced that ElliptiGO representative Idai Makaya has officially been recognized for having lowered the Guinness World Record for fastest journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats by elliptical cycle. From May 26 to May 31, 2016, Makaya covered the 848-mile journey that traverses the entire island of Great Britain in just 5 days, 0 hours and 4 minutes, lowering the previous mark of 6 days, 10 hours set in 2014 by Glen Burmeister. The record was officially ratified and accepted by Guinness World Records on August 4, 2016.
“Having the record officially confirmed is a nice way to wrap up and start to look ahead at what’s next,” remarked Makaya. ”When I got the email from Guinness World Records, it was probably just relief that the confirmation had finally come through after two months. I am really happy about the whole thing – just a satisfied feeling. Now, it’s time to set my sights on another significant challenge to conquer on my ElliptiGO.”
Makaya is no stranger to completing extreme endurance feats by elliptical bike. Just last year, he and a group of five other riders were the first ever to finish the 764-mile Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneur by elliptical cycle within the allowable time limit. Makaya was the first of that group to cross the finish line in a time of 83 hours and 38 minutes, and he currently holds the elliptical cycling record for that event. He has also previously completed the fabled London Edinburgh London endurance ride, as well as both the European and World Championships of Elliptical Cycling.
Makaya’s training regularly consists of 200km-plus AUDAX rides, where he fine-tunes his nutrition and fitness for these major events. And as for what is next for the record-setting rider, he says, “I can only live in the present; I don’t really spend too much time looking back, so I will need to shape new challenges to keep the journey going.” His next big test will come on October 8, when he returns to the United States to once again take on Palomar Mountain in the World Championships of Elliptical Cycling.
“It’s always exciting to hear what someone has been inspired to do on an ElliptiGO bike,” stated Bryan Pate, Co-Founder and Co-President of ElliptiGO. “Idai has become a regular in testing the limits of human and elliptical cycling performance. I shouldn’t be shocked anymore when I find out about his latest feat, but I can’t help but be impressed. His ambition and spirit to challenge his own personal limits is what our company culture is all about – encouraging each other to be the best version of ourselves. I’m glad that our bikes are helping people find new ways to participate, compete and improve.”
