We’re beyond excited to celebrate our ElliptiGO Athletes, many of whom are elite Olympic runners and cyclists who rely on our bikes for low-impact cross-training. It was incredible to watch several of these phenomenal athletes compete on the world’s biggest stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics. They went toe-to-toe with the best in the world, and some even achieved their dream of winning a medal.
Bashir Abdi of Belgium took bronze in the men’s marathon in Tokyo. In Paris, he earned a silver medal, finishing in a season-best time of 2:06:47. He was just 21 seconds behind Ethiopian winner Tamirat Tola, who set an Olympic record with a marathon time of 2:06:26.
Twelve years after winning her last Olympic medal at the 2012 London Olympics, the Netherlands’ Marianne Vos placed second in the women’s cycling road race. Vos, Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky and Hungary’s Kata Blanka Vas all finished in what appeared to be a dead heat. The three women all had an official finishing time of 4:00:21, but photos revealed that Vos edged out Kopecky by four inches to win the silver medal. Kopecky took bronze. American Kristen Faulkner won gold with a finishing time of 3:59:23.
Emily Sisson, who holds the American women’s record in the marathon with a time of 2:18:29, finished her 23rd in the Olympic women’s marathon. Right behind her was Genevieve Gregson from Australia, who placed 24th.
Eilish McColgan represented Great Britain in her fourth Olympic appearance. After having knee surgery last year and being unable to run for six months, it’s impressive that she was able to qualify and participate in the 2024 games. She placed 15th in the 10,000 meters.
Elliot Giles initially was not selected to represent Great Britain in the Olympics. He was in the Swiss Alps, training for another competition, when he got the call to replace an injured teammate, just one week before the 800 meters competition. Giles qualified for the semi-finals; unfortunately, he did not advance to the final race.
